A roundabout is a circular intersection where drivers travel counterclockwise around a center island. There are no traffic signals or stop signs in a roundabout. Drivers entering the roundabout must yield to the traffic inside the roundabout. The only way to exit the roundabout is to make a right hand turn at your desired highway. In a roundabout, there is no stopping – only yielding. The roundabout is expected to not only improve current traffic flow but also accommodate the increased traffic the area anticipates long-term.
Benefits
The roundabout provides many benefits to travelers including:
>> The elimination of high-speed crashes
>> Improved flow of traffic
>> Increased traffic capacity
>> Ability to accommodate vehicles and trucks of all sizes
>> Increased safety for all travelers
Construction of the Highway 22 and 8th Street Intersection Roundabout will improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection. The existing intersection was difficult for long vehicles to navigate and caused delays for traffic attempting to make left turns. The roundabout will improve both traffic flow and pedestrian safety by eliminating these challenges.
Key features of the project include:
>> A new roundabout at the Highway 22 and 8th Street intersection.
>> Frontage road realignment to improve access and traffic flow around the intersection.
>> Shared-use paths to enhance pedestrian and cyclist connectivity.
>> New lighting for improved visibility and safety.
The Interstate 94 West Business Loop Reconstruction project in Dickinson, ND, will upgrade the corridor from the west I-94 Interchange ramps to State Avenue, converting it from a rural roadway to an urban roadway section that meets current standards. The project will improve safety, traffic flow, and pedestrian access for residents and travelers.
Key features of the project include:
>> Roundabout installation to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection of I-94 Business Loop with 23rd Avenue/County Road 10.
>> Roadway reconstruction to include a curb and a two-way common left turn lane to accommodate turning traffic at various intersections.
>> Storm sewer and water utility work along the project corridor.
>> Street lighting installation for improved visibility and safety.
>> Shared use path along the north/northeast side of the road, providing a safe pedestrian connection from Fairway Street to State Avenue.
