The Duffer Brothers burst onto the entertainment scene with their hit show Stranger Things that has broken records at Netflix time and time again.

The debut of the fifth season of the iconic show earned nearly 60 million views in its first five days of streaming – the highest number for premiere-week viewership of an English-language Netflix series and the third-highest debut week viewership overall. It broke the previous record Season 4 of Stranger Things set back in 2022 when it earned 22 million views over three days.

Duffer Brothers Dealt Bad News While ‘Stranger Things’ Comes to a Close

As the Duffer Brothers bring their iconic show to a close at the end of 2025, they were set to work on an adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Staub’s New York Times best-selling novel The Talisman. The brothers initially signed on to create an adaptation for the beloved series back in 2021.

Now it’s been canceled, according to ScreenRant.

In a conversation with CBR, Ross Duffer shared that, “Sadly, Talisman is no longer at Netflix, so we’re not involved.” He revealed the project has been in development hell for quite some time.

“When I interned, when I was really, you know, back in college at Kennedy Marshall, I remember reading, I think it was a movie script for Talisman. So it’s been in development forever, so I’m sorry that we were not the ones to break the curse,” he said.

Matt Duffer admitted, “I think it was probably naive of us to think we could break The Talisman.”

Duffer Brothers Set for Massive Move

The move comes just a few months before the Duffer Brothers are set to leave Netflix for Paramount – a move that’s expected to happen in April 2026.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be joining the Paramount family,” the brothers said in a statement at the time. “To be part of that mission is not just exciting – it’s the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. And to do so at a studio with such a storied Hollywood legacy is a privilege we don’t take lightly. We’re also excited to reunite with our friends Cindy [Holland] and Matt [Thunell], who were among the very first to believe in us and an unusual little script we wrote that became ‘Stranger Things.’ They took a chance on us in 2015, and they’re taking a chance again – we can’t wait to create new stories together.”

Netflix and Paramount are currently sparring for Warner Bros. Discovery.
