With the impact, the Saveiro Robust, owned by a vehicle bodywork and painting company, was thrown off the highway until it came to a stop against a tree.

The driver of the Maverick was initially taken to a hospital in downtown Garibaldi. The other driver, of the Saveiro, was injured and trapped in the wreckage of the vehicle until he was removed by firefighters and then also taken to the Garibaldi hospital, with fractures to the head and chest region.

Despite the violent collision, the lives of both drivers are not in danger. Their names and ages have not been released by rescue teams. What is known is that the Saveiro vehicle has plates from the city of Bento Gonçalves and the Maverick has plates from Caxias do Sul.

A huge line of cars formed in both directions on BR-470, as the highway is a single lane (not a dual carriageway) and has no shoulder or escape route. Furthermore, serious traffic accidents occur almost daily, highlighting the fragility of Brazilian highways.

In this traffic accident, agents from the Federal Highway Police (PRF), a team from the 3rd Military Fire Company of Bento Gonçalves, Volunteer Firefighters from Garibaldi, two teams from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) and a team from the Caminhos da Serra Gaúcha Concessionaire (CSG) were involved, in addition to a tow truck used to remove the damaged vehicles.
