The Province of West Kent has once again demonstrated its commitment to community engagement by supporting Sailability, the local charity based at Chipstead Sailing Club, which enables people with a range of needs to experience the joy and freedom of sailing.

Representatives from the Province, including Provincial Charity Steward Steve Rozier, accompanied by Provincial Charity Committee members Tim Perrin and Ian McDermid, visited the club to make a formal presentation. They were warmly welcomed by Jof and Mike from Sailability, before joining service users to see first-hand the difference this support makes.

The Province has a proud history of assisting Sailability. Previous donations have included the provision of a boat named The Spirit of Freemasonry and the supply of specially branded sails. The latest contribution celebrates the installation of a new hoist, an essential piece of equipment that enables service users who are otherwise unable to board boats to access the water safely.

Sailability had faced challenges when one of its two hoists, as well as a manual backup, became inoperative. Without the replacement, the charity risked being unable to continue offering safe access to the lake. Thanks to a joint donation from the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) and the Province of West Kent — each contributing 50 per cent of the £6,000 required — a brand-new hoist has now been installed.

During the visit, a service user named Elizabeth was among the first to use the hoist, enjoying a relaxing and uplifting sail on the lake.

This latest donation is a powerful example of how funds raised by Freemasons directly benefit local communities. It highlights not only the support provided by the MCF but also the Province’s dedication to the Third Pillar of the UGLE Strategy: community engagement.
