The Civil Police informed the press that a 72-year-old man was arrested and sent to the prison system. The elderly man is accused of rape of a vulnerable person, and the crime was allegedly committed against a child, in a family context, in the city of São Luiz Gonzaga, in Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil.
The elderly man was located by police officers on the morning of Friday, May 2, and taken to the police station, and is now at the disposal of the courts.
Cases of sexual abuse and other acts of violence against children and adolescents saw significant growth throughout 2024 in São Luiz Gonzaga and the region, reported delegate Tanea Bratz, head of the police station.
The elderly man's arrest takes place in the month in which the Orange May campaign takes place, aimed at Raising Awareness and Combating the Sexual Abuse of Children and Adolescents.
The name of the attacker and the name, age and sex of the child were also not released by police.
