A 49-year-old woman was killed instantly after being struck by lightning while working at a fish pond in a rural area of Xianning city, located in southeastern China's Hubei province, Chinese media reported.
The tragedy occurred in the village of Xiashakou on Friday, April 11, when, according to residents, the weather was unstable, dark clouds, followed by lightning and thunder. The victim had his head down when he was suddenly struck by lightning.
The loud bang of the electric discharge frightened all the residents, who soon discovered that the weather phenomenon had taken the woman's life. Her body was on the ground next to the lake where she raised fish.
The sudden disaster left the entire village in mourning. "Such a hard-working woman was struck by lightning and disappeared in the blink of an eye. The lightning was very strange," one of the neighbors reported to the local press in the Asian country.
The name and photo of the victim who died as a result of the lightning strike have not been released. Only an image from a surveillance camera that shows the woman walking next to the lake, shortly before being struck by lightning.
