A scandal further tarnishes the image of the Catholic Church in Argentina, as developments unfold in the case of a priest who allegedly sexually abused a woman, the Investigations Brigade of the Province of Jujuy reported.
A major police operation was carried out on Sunday, April 13, in San Salvador de Jujuy, capital of the province of Jujuy, which culminated in the arrest of parish priest Atilio Bruno Luis, popularly known as "Priest Louis", arrested as part of a series of investigations into alleged sexual abuse.
The line of investigation indicates that the priest took advantage of his religious authority to offer refuge and support to a Chilean woman, before sexually assaulting her on five occasions, which allegedly occurred in 2023.

Security forces located Father Luis at his home in the northern part of the city of San Salvador de Jujuy. He was detained as requested by the provincial courts.
The priest was in charge of the Church of Our Lady of Nieva - located in the Cidade de Nieva neighborhood - in San Salvador de Jujuy, until March 9 of this year, when he was relieved of his duties.
The church, located at 550 Iriarte Street, continues with its normal schedule, but with a new priest, named Alfredo López.
After Atilio Bruno Luis was arrested by local police, the Diocese of Jujuy issued an official statement asking the Department of Justice to expedite the investigation.
Local police reported that the priest will have to remain in the police station for at least 40 days. During the police operation, an unregistered firearm was found and seized.
In 2017, Catholics in Argentina and around the world watched in astonishment as a nun cruelly chose "submissive" children for rapist priests, one of the most dramatic cases of pedophilia in the history of the South American country.
