Montevideo | Security authorities reported that a 13-month-old child died after being attacked by a Rottweiler dog late in the afternoon of Friday, April 4, in the Colón neighborhood, northwest of Montevideo.
According to the police report, the girl was playing with a ball in the backyard when she was attacked by the ferocious dog. The father, who is a police officer assigned to the 21st police station in Colón, killed the family dog with at least two shots and quickly took the baby to the emergency room at Gustavo Saint-Bois Hospital.
At the hospital, doctors confirmed the little girl's death. The case is being handled by the fourth-section prosecutor, Carlos Sastre.
Cases of victims attacked by dogs have a high rate in Uruguay, which according to data released by the press in general, between 2010 and 2020 the South American country registered 31,634 dog bites, with an annual rate of 87.51 injuries per 100,000 people.
