Canton City is a city located in Pembina County, in the state of North Dakota, USA, and its economy is based specifically on the agricultural sector, however, there are small businesses in different sectors.

Although the town is also known and called Hensel, its legal name is Canton City. The reason it is known as Hensel is due to the arrival of a post office in the community, which according to the Pembina County government website, is the name of the hometown of Canadian Joseph Irwin - the first postmaster, appointed on February 5, 1884.

Featured on the Internet

On the internet, the territorial area of Canton City, which according to the United States Census Bureau is 36 km2, can be seen through images captured in different years by satellites and which are stored on websites such as Google Maps, Bing Maps, Google Earth and others.

The urban and rural perimeter was recorded in 360° images only once by Google, through the Street View service, in September 2009. The recording occurred only on Main Street, the main street of the community.

However, it is possible to view the streets of Canton City through 360° images on the website of the company Bing, through the Bing Maps service. The images are clearer (compared to Google's Street View) and were recorded in June 2015. In addition to Main Street, the Bing Maps car mapped other streets such as S Burlington Ave and Conlan Street.

Public streets and their infrastructure

The small town of Canton City has a dozen roads, most of which are dirt roads, that is, unpaved. Based on images collected by Bing Maps in June 2015, asphalt only covers the town's main road, County Road 3. The other roads are all dirt with small rocks. Below is a list of the city's streets:

>> 2nd Street
>> 3rd Street
>> 138th Avenue NE
>> Conlan Street
>> County Road 3
>> Main Alley Avenue N
>> Main Alley South
>> Main Street

Canton City Postal Service

The postal service or mail service has a deep mark on the small town, which according to reports, began with the arrival of the Hensel Post Office - a name that characterized the town from 1890 onwards. The name Hensel, in fact, is the birthplace of the first postmaster - Joseph Erwin - appointed on February 5, 1884. Erwin left behind the town of Hensel, Ontario, Canada, to settle in Canton City.

Service at the Canton City Post Office was halted late Thursday afternoon, June 1, 2023, after police cordoned off the front door of the post office with yellow tape, followed by a printed notice posted stating: The Canton City (Hensel) Post Office has been closed indefinitely due to safety concerns. Post office customers can pick up their mail in the town of Cavalier.

iNewZ.TV's Neil Carlson explained that Pembina County Sheriff Terry Meidinger has not released any information about the post office closure.
