A serious traffic accident between a fire truck and a car resulted in the death of five people, including a child, on a highway in southern Brazil.

The traffic accident occurred on Sunday morning (26), on the ERS-486 highway, in the municipality of Itati, in the Litoral region, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazilian authorities reported.

The causes of the accident that killed two firefighters and three people in the Toyota/Corolla are still unknown, but security forces and experts are expected to present a report in the coming days.

The firefighters who died in the serious accident that occurred around 8:30 am this Sunday were identified as: Juliano Baigorra Ribeiro, from the city of Uruguaiana, and Audrei Alves Camargo, from the city of Santa Maria. Both were from the state of Rio Grande do Sul.

The official vehicle in which the military personnel were traveling was on its way to respond to a traffic accident, but for unknown reasons, the fire truck collided head-on with a passenger car. Due to the strong impact, both vehicles ended up on the side of the single-lane highway.

As of the publication of this article, the names of the victims who were in the Toyota Corolla have not been revealed. Furthermore, there is no information about the start of the wake for the two firefighters.
